In Waikiki, many people experience stand up paddling for the first time and have only seen people riding waves in Honolulu. Yes, stand up paddle boards are a fantastic vehicle to catch waves on. One reason is that you are standing so that you can more easily see the sets. Your paddle also allows you to make turns easier than surfers. That is not to say that you should be a wave hog. Be respectful and give all comers their share of waves. If you are visiting, and haven’t tried stand up paddle yet, find some Waikiki surf rentals and discover the joys of SUP all by yourself. If you want to get the most out of your visit, do not waste your time with the boards on the beach. They are often not the right size for you and can make your first SUP experience very unsatisfying. Take stand up paddle lessons in Waikiki with a good board , learn the basics and have a blast.
